How We Work
Informed debate and decisions require the participation of many groups, equipped with the best available information in forms they can use and share.
SRM360 combines three critical areas of work: outreach and engagement, expert analysis, and high-quality content production. All these elements are important in preparing the world for decisions about SRM.
Learn more about our approach to each in the sections below.
Outreach and engagement
SRM360 engages with people across society who are working on SRM or who will play a key role in shaping decisions about it. We connect with them to help them learn more about SRM and to find out how we can best support their work on SRM.
Through our work, we aim to help more people and organisations develop a nuanced understanding of SRM that allows them to engage more effectively with this challenging emerging issue.
We work towards a world where:
AUDIENCE | HOW THEY ENGAGE WITH SRM |
---|---|
Academic researchers | Study and provide clear and robust answers to the key questions about SRM as soon as possible. Present their findings in an even-handed way and communicate effectively with decision makers and other stakeholders. |
Thinks tanks, policy advisors, civil society groups | Understand the need to engage with SRM. Develop informed positions on SRM that feed into public debate and policy. |
Media/journalists | Create compelling, well-informed, and accurate content about SRM . Foster an informed public debate. |
Concerned citizens | Are informed about SRM science, the issues it raises, and the actors involved. |
Funders | Make smart funding decisions on research and policy development. |
Governments and intergovernmental organisations | Create policy frameworks that promote responsible research and decisions about SRM. |
Bridging the gap between the lab and the public square
SRM is still a relatively small field. Much of the technical expertise is concentrated among a few hundred researchers worldwide. While these experts are publishing important findings, their academic work can be hard to access – and harder still to interpret in ways that help wider audiences understand what is known, what is uncertain, and what is at stake.
SRM360 helps bridge this gap. We support key intermediaries – such as think tanks, journalists, civil society organisations, and educators – who play a crucial role in shaping public and policy discussions of emerging issues.
By working with these intermediaries, we aim to make SRM knowledge more accessible, relevant, and usable for broader audiences. This supports more informed debate and better decisions across society.
- SRM360 provides a bridge between SRM experts and influential intermediaries.
- These intermediaries connect with their audiences to inform public discussions and decisions.
