Outdoor Experiments Tracker

SRM360’s Outdoor Experiments Tracker lists completed, ongoing, upcoming, and cancelled outdoor experiments related to sunlight reflection methods (SRM), also known as solar geoengineering. These experiments involve testing equipment, releasing materials, or otherwise modifying clouds with the intention to advance SRM research or deployment capabilities, or to deploy SRM. The tracker categorises experiments as scientific (advancing scientific understanding of SRM), engineering (developing equipment or knowledge that could support SRM deployment), or non-scientific. Methodology

To be included in this tracker, the experiment had to meet the following criteria:

  • The experiment intended to advance SRM research, deployment capabilities, or to deploy SRM.

  • The relevant SRM approach could be capable of producing a substantial global cooling effect of at least 1°C.

  • Equipment was tested or materials were released outdoors.*

To identify field experiments for this tracker, SRM360 searched through government records, statements by private companies, research project reports, and peer-reviewed scientific articles.

The tracker will be updated on a regular basis.

*In the case of cancelled or upcoming experiments, the planned equipment test or material release was – or is – intended to take place outdoors.
