Methodology
This tracker monitors state-level legislation across the United States that mention solar geoengineering or the dispersion of chemicals into the atmosphere with the intention to modify climate or weather. We have included bills that mandate disclosure of activities, as well as those that ban them.
Proposed: The bill has been formally filed. This reflects the date it was introduced.
Died in Committee: The bill expired without being brought to a vote, typically because it did not advance out of committee or reach a vote during the legislative session.
Failed: The bill was brought to a vote and did not pass.
Passed in House: The bill passed a vote in the state House of Representatives and moved to the Senate.
Passed in Senate: The bill passed a vote in the state Senate and continued through the legislative process.
Approved: The bill was adopted and became law.
Bill Numbers are unique only within a given state and legislative session. Identical bill numbers may appear in different states or in different years.
In cases where bills are renumbered, significantly amended, or reintroduced under a new number, we retain entries where they remain relevant for transparency and tracking purposes. Multiple similar bills may also appear within a single state if introduced by different sponsors or with varying scopes.
