Alfonso Fernández is a broadly-trained Geographer who studies climate changes, mountain environments and glaciers. As an “unconfined” Geoscientist, Alfonso is always open to explore new paths of research. He has participated in a diverse range of research endeavors: from long field seasons studying changes in Patagonian Glaciers, to hydroclimatic numerical modeling of the Coupled Human and Natural Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. By the same token, his work interweaves a range of quantitative techniques such as GIS, Remote sensing, Photogrammetry, Hydroclimatic numerical modeling, Stable isotopes, and Geodesy, among others.
