Cecilia Bitz is a Professor in Atmospheric and Climate Science at University of Washington. She investigates the role that sea ice plays in shaping polar climates and climate solutions. She is actively engaged in research on improving prediction of Arctic sea ice in Earth system models, sea ice data assimilation, and wave-ice interactions. She has worked on climate change impacts on human health and polar bears. She has been a Fulbright Scholar to New Zealand and director of the University of Washington Program on Climate. She has been called to testify to the U.S. Senate on Arctic climate change. She is the recipient of the Bjerknes Lectureship of the American Geophysical Society and the Syukuro Manabe Award of the American Meteorological Society.
